OUR HISTORY
“The Kimberley Club is not just a Club in the ordinary sense – it has a tradition all on its own. The memory of the men who made the new and greater South Africa, is enshrined in this building.” Sir Ernest Oppenheimer 1935
The Kimberley Club
The City of Kimberley can be proud of one of its oldest and greatest legacies.
The Kimberley Club is a full service 4-star guesthouse that offers excellent luxury accommodation and delicious cuisine at affordable rates. Centrally located in the CBD, the Club became a popular venue for many functions, weddings, conferences and business meetings and offers easy access to the City of Kimberley and its tourist attractions such as The Big Hole, McGregor Museum, The Afrikaner Library and many more.
Since 1881
The Kimberley Club was declared a national monument and the plaque handed over to the chairman on the 04 of April 1984. It was not until the 24th of May that the club was gazetted as a national monument. The club officially opened its doors to 74 members on the 14th of August 1882 who were duly impressed with their new double-storey sumptuous club complete with billiard-room, two ante rooms and reading-room upstairs, with a dining room and bar lounge on the ground floor.
In the company of legends…
It’s seen the “comings and goings” of some of the foremost personalities in the world – has entertained Sovereigns, Princes and Princesses, Governors and High Commissioners and has housed legendary figures whose vision and energy have pioneered new territories.
